Types of handling
… from / to loading bay … with tail lift … from / to ground level
The difference in height and gap between the platform of the trailer and the bay is usually bridged with a motorized dock leveler. Depending on the length of the dock leveler you will end up with various slope angles. The flatter the better, however if it does slope, it should not exceed 7° upwards or downwards. If the slope is steeper, there is a risk that the truck will hang on the bridge knuckle because of the low ground clearance. You may get stranded downwards if the forks are longer than 45” and the angle is steeper than 7°.
Inside the trailer – stacking/unstacking. If you have to stack or unstack loads, consider a stacker with freelift, thus allowing you to drive into a container truck.
